CNIB courses, seminars and workshops help organizations gain the knowledge they need to make accessibility part of their everyday communications.
 
Legislation mandating that businesses be accessible has passed in Ontario and is pending in other provinces and jurisdictions. Organizations that plan for a transition to accessibility will enjoy the benefit of long-term costs savings by investing in skills and knowledge now to avoid costly remediation in the future.
 
Upcoming Course Schedule:
Introduction to Web Accessibility
Date: Tuesday March 27, 2012
CNIB : 1929 Bayview Ave., Toronto-Ontario  
 
This one-day course is designed for anyone who requires an introduction to the principles and practices of accessibility. 

Topics include:

  • An overview of Web accessibility and the processes requir​ed to achieve it
  • Understanding WCAG 2.0 AA Guidelines
  • How to use text, color and contrast for accessibility
  • Best practices for website structure and page layout 
  • Site navigation and its affect on usability. Current assistive technologies (screen readers and screen magnifiers) and how they are used
  • The implications of multimedia and its application in the accessibility continuum
  • Case studies of accessible and non-accessible sites to illustrate principles and practices in action.
What to bring…

We ask that participants bring their laptop (Mac or Windows) for the hands on portion of the course. A list of freely available software will be provided before the course so that participants can install it and be ready to try it out.
Let us know beforehand if you require a computer and we will be happy to provide one for an additional fee. Some knowledge of HTML is helpful but not required for participation.

The course is held at our CNIB facility in central Toronto or can be delivered to your place of business if you have enough participants.
